I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. I studied at Charles University in Prague and received a dual degree in mathematics and visual art.

I can recall three influences that continue to shape the creation of my prints.  Many years ago, while I studied at the Charles University, I was introduced to the graphic arts by my art teacher, Cyril Bouda, who was a prominent Czech artist and a leading practitioner of graphic arts.  I was captivated by his drawings and prints, which he created using the classic techniques—particularly etching and drypoint—and was inspired by his talent as a narrator and storyteller.

The second source of inspiration is the graphic art of Mary Cassatt.  Even though her vision was definitely that of a realist, her prints—concerned primarily with the human figure—are free and fresh.  I am inspired by her soft-ground prints, as well as her drypoints (both black-and-white and printed a-la-poupe) and fine aquatints.

In recent years I was inspired by works of my instructors, particularly by printmaker Ron Pokrasso and new contemporary processes in his mixed media works, as the solar etching.  I participated in many workshops at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, Idyllwild Arts Academy, Riverside Art Museum and The Getty Museum.

Finally, I have practiced my skills and further explored printmaking largely on my own.  I equally enjoy working with the traditional intaglio technique as I do with the monotype.  I like to combine the centuries old techniques of intaglio with various contemporary printmaking techniques.  In my prints I depict familiar aspects of everyday life but infuse them with some degree of wit and fantasy.

In the last twenty years I have been an active member of several art associations and I was juried into the Los Angeles Printmaking Society, the Santa Barbara Printmakers and Thousand Oaks Art Association.  I have been invited and selected to exhibit my prints at various places, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the City of Brea Art Gallery, The Channing Peake and Faulkner Galleries in Santa Barbara, San Louis Obispo Gallery of Art, the Ojai Center for the arts, the Quad Gallery at Riverside City College, the Westmont Museum of Art,  the Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, and the Spudnik Press Cooperative in Chicago, IL.  Most recently, I was accepted for a juried residential program in “Scuola Internazionale di Grafica” in Venice, Italy where I completed six-week independent residency program from April 2 to May 15 2015, eight-week from February 29 to May 5 2016 and most recently eight-week residency from Fabruary 1 to May 1 2017.
