I was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic. Growing up in this ancient city full of history encouraged and influenced my interest in drawing and painting from an early age. I studied at Charles University in Prague and graduated with a double major in mathematics and visual art. I was introduced there to the graphic arts by my teacher Cyril Bouda, who was a prominent Czech artist and a leading practitioner of graphic arts. I was captivated by his drawings and prints, which he created using the classic techniques—particularly etching and drypoint—and was inspired by his talent as a narrator and storyteller.
Being married and raising children while holding a full time job as a junior high math teacher confined my interest in art to my spare time. In 1984 my husband and I immigrated with our four sons to the United States. There were many challenges in rebuilding our life from scratch in America. I was fully devoted to helping our children adjust to their new homeland and was employed as a computer hardware tester.
I began to study art again once my responsibilities dwindled down. Besides oil painting, watercolor painting, and drawing, I was excited to revive my interest in the graphic arts from my college years. I participated in printmaking workshops at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, Idyllwild Arts Academy, Riverside Art Museum, and at various locations in Santa Barbara. I equally enjoy working with the intaglio technique as I do with the monotype. I like to combine the old techniques of intaglio with the plain elegance of its flowing line work with various contemporary printmaking techniques.
Over the last ten years I have been a member of the Westlake Village Art Guild and Ventura Artists’ Union and my work has received prizes at a number of membership and open juried shows. My work has been displayed at various locations including the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Ventura County Government Center (Atrium Gallery), Ventura Artists’ Union Gallery, Sylvia White Gallery in Ventura, and Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. In 2010, I was accepted as a member of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society and the Santa Barbara Printmakers. I have have been invited and selected to exhibit my prints at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, the City of Brea Art Gallery, The Channing Peake and Faulkner Galleries in Santa Barbara, Quad Gallery at Riverside City College, and the Westmont Museum of Art.
I hope that you enjoy viewing these prints and paintings -- I have enjoyed creating them.
